Application FAQs

Who can apply for residency at Dismas Home?

Residents of our home are women between the ages of 18 to 60 years old who are (or have been) justice involved with substance use. Applicants must be residents of New Hampshire, and convictions must not include arson, sex offense, violent crimes or behaviors, or assault.

Do I have to have current legal or justice involvement?

No. Your criminal or legal history can be in the past.

How long does the application process take?

The application process can take anywhere from 48 hours to several days (or more), depending on the needs of the applicant.

What makes Dismas Home different from a detox facility, halfway house, or sober home?

We are not a detox facility. Women who come to Dismas home have already committed to their recovery journey, and are 30 days sober. While we offer a place for women to heal, recover, and prepare for living in the community again, we are different from a halfway house or a sober home. Our unique two-step process is much longer than a 28-day program. It starts with a 90-day recovery process, then uses the TLP (transitional living program) to learn the life and vocational skills they will need to eventually transition to productive independent living.

What happens if I don’t qualify for residency at Dismas Home?

If a prospective resident does not meet current requirements after completing the application process, Dismas Home will refer the individual to The Door Way, and leave the opportunity open to re-apply at a later date.

How is pregnancy handled at Dismas Home?
