About Dismas Home NH

A Unique Approach for Success

Substance use treatment center and recovery home with clinical and educational support

Dismas Home of New Hampshire offers women a safe and welcoming home with all the clinical, medical, and educational support they need for continued recovery and preparation for the next chapter of life, work, and family. Our comprehensive program addresses the root cause of addiction cycles and justice-involvement, finally allowing them to make lasting change.

Our combination 90-day treatment program and transitional living program has had an unusual success rate of over 90% for those who complete the program. We are the only non-profit program in New Hampshire that is dedicated solely to serving women who have been involved in the justice system and providing substance use treatment and comprehensive wrap-around services. Donate today to help these women break barriers.

Our Vision

New Hampshire will be a place where the previously incarcerated can thrive.

Our Mission

Dismas Home of NH is a residential treatment and re-entry program for justice involved women including veterans, with substance use disorder. We offer residents the opportunity to improve their lives by providing effective clinical treatments and a wide range of social support services, in a safe, loving home-like residential environment.

About Us

About Dismas Home of New Hampshire

Dismas Home of New Hampshire is a federally registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and is independent of other Dismas model programs around the country. We partner with healthcare providers, social services, the justice system, educational institutions and local employers to support and empower women who are transitioning into a more meaningful life after Dismas Home.

In 2016, Dismas Home was established by Julie McCarthy-Brown and Jack McCarthy to address the needs of underserved justice-involved women in New Hampshire. We are not a detoxification facility, halfway house, or sober home. Our residents are in early recovery and are committed to investing in the next chapter of their lives in a healthy and productive way.

Dismas Home is safe and supportive and evidence-based.

As a superior court judge, I see so many people struggling with mental health and substance use disorder who need support like housing to help them stay out of the criminal justice system and stay active in the community. I recently visited Dismas Home and was impressed with the comfort, support, and treatment they provide. I know firsthand that several drug court participants would never be successful without Dismas Home. I am so grateful for the work they do!

Our Community

Investing In Our Community

Two garden beds with pink, red, and yellow flowers. The garden beds are painted Dismas Home pink and blue.
A garden at Dismas Home that residents help to grow and maintain.

Because we’re committed to providing a safe place for our residents to heal, we invest in well-maintained and secure properties.

Our team and staff work closely with local communities (including employers, community supervision, and law enforcement), and have received positive feedback from our neighbors.

Not only do we help women heal and become independent, contributing members of society, we also help save tax payer dollars that would otherwise be spent on covering the costs of the DOC if these women return to their previous cycle or incarceration.

Local Partnerships

Our team continues to partner with associations and resources throughout the community, including:

I’ve had a wonderful experience being the neighbor of the Dismas Home.

Your Donation Can Turn Lives Around

We depend on contributions to run this vital service. If you or your organization want to be a part of the transformation during this pivotal time, there are many ways to donate to our substance use and treatment recovery home. One small donation can have big impact for these women and their communities.

Just that one connection could save somebody’s life.
