a second chance
at life

It's not just a house, Dismas Home of New Hampshire offers residents a home with the support needed for recovery, family reunification,
and re-entry.

The Capacity for Compassion

Executive Director Cheryll Andrews sat down for a recent podcast in honor of September’s National Recovery Month.

Chris Young Dismas Home of New Hampshire

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the unexpected passing of our friend and long-time board member, Chris Young.

Chris was an active community member, always giving back in immeasurable ways. In addition to serving on our Board of Directors for more than 10 years, he volunteered at Kairos Prison Ministry for more than 20 years, serving at prisons in NH and VT and training volunteers throughout the United States. Chris also led PECAN (Program for Emergency Church Assistance in Newport) for over 15 years.

Chris did everything he could to support our work, most importantly, getting our second home open and serving women in our community. He toured the property in December and expressed his immense joy at its finally taking shape.

We are forever grateful for Chris’s impact on Dismas Home and all of our residents and staff. We will miss him, his spirit, and his dedication to and compassion for humanity, but we look forward to ensuring his passion project comes to life!

In true Chris fashion, his obituary notes that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dismas Home of NH, 102 4th Street, Manchester, NH 03102.

What we do

Recovery

Dismas Home of New Hampshire is a state-licensed, 90-day, Low-Intensity, Residential Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Treatment and Re-entry Program for justice-involved women. Addiction is a significant obstacle for our residents and is directly linked to underlying pain, trauma, and incarceration.

Support

A family-like, home environment offers holistic care, providing whatever is needed to transform our resident’s lives. Each resident participates in daily group therapies and receives individual psychotherapy and intensive case management. Our diverse, evidenced-based programming supports the well being of body, mind, and spirit. Loving care and assistance is available 24/7.

Re-Entry

Dismas Home of New Hampshire exists to successfully transition our residents back into New Hampshire communities to live a sober, mentally and physically healthy life. Our Transitional Living Program breaks the cycle of returning to prison and assists our residents to become self-sufficient and productive citizens.

" For 21 months I was just a number. When I left prison and came to
Dismas Home, the staff helped me reclaim my name and my life."
