Everyone is beginning to experience the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  Our pantries are being filled with treats, presents are being wrapped, calendars are ram jam with activities, events and traditions and although we are super busy, everywhere we go people are smiling and wishing each other happy holidays.  This energy and vibe surrounding us is what makes the season so magical and believe it or not, we are the ones creating it…together.  At the Dismas Home of New Hampshire we are filled with that magical feeling especially when we reflect on the year and realize just how blessed we all are with some of the simplest pleasures life has to offer which in turn makes us even more thankful.

The word THANKFUL is one most of us here will never get sick of, and that is because the journey to recovery requires us to be thankful;  for acceptance, trust, family, tradition, and a second chance at having a happy, productive life.  The courageous and strong women of the Dismas Home of New Hampshire celebrated this Thanksgiving by creating a new tradition, one that is all about giving, sharing, and being thankful, The Dismas Recipe Book

Now I know what you are thinking; how could this book be about those things when all it contains are recipes?  Well, the kitchen is said to be the heart of a home; recipes are created there and shared with our loved ones; some are hundreds of years old and have been handed down from generation to generation, tying us together by serving our love on a plate.  We are truly thankful to all those who shared their recipes with us, giving us a part of your history, your family, your traditions so that we could share this with ours for years to come. We would like to continue to add more to our book if you can please upload your recipe here. We are genuinely excited to start cooking and can’t wait to enjoy a tasty feast together as a family.

On the note of being thankful, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude to everyone for the kindness and generosity that was shown to us on Giving Tuesday.  You knocked our socks off and helped us supersede our goal!!  This will allow us to continue our mission of changing the lives of not only our current residents but for others out there who might need us, especially this time of year when they may feel they have nowhere else to turn.  We know recovery is hard even though ‘tis the season to be jolly. If you would like to show your support, please consider making a donation today in the spirit of the holiday season as we continue to give these fearless women a magical holiday season to remember.

This holiday season, our wish for Dismas ladies is that you celebrate the gift of life with all it’s ups and downs, know that every situation is temporary and you are stronger than you think.  As wonderful a time of year this is, there is also a lot of pressure and expectations that come with it.  To the friends and families of those who have loved ones in recovery please be mindful that your person is doing the best they can, love them well, support them and have a plan that incorporates their needs, perhaps start a new tradition, one that will empower them.

We wish each and everyone a healthy, happy, and safe holiday season.
